Hello
I’m Jordanne Dervaes, a passionate educator, urban farmer, entrepreneur and animal rescuer with a mission to inspire and empower others through sustainable living, regenerative practices, and community-building.

My journey has taken me from the soil of an urban homestead to the classroom at Occidental College, where I teach regenerative agriculture, bridging the gap between academic principles and hands-on experience.
My journey has been one of nurturing connections—to the land, to people, and to the animals that share our world.

My Story
A Life Rooted in Nature and Compassion
Growing up surrounded by the principles of self-reliance and environmental stewardship, I cultivated a deep love for nature and a drive to create meaningful change. This led me to establish my urban homestead, where I practice regenerative farming to nurture the earth while feeding my community. Through this experience, I’ve discovered the transformative power of sustainable living, which I now share with others through my various ventures and educational initiatives.

Educator and Thought Leader
As a professor at Occidental College, I guide students through the principles and practices of regenerative agriculture. My goal is to inspire the next generation of leaders to rethink our relationship with the land and innovate solutions for a more sustainable future. Whether teaching soil health or exploring urban farming models, I’m dedicated to making sustainability accessible, actionable, and impactful.

Entrepreneurial Ventures
Beyond the classroom, my entrepreneurial spirit shines through in my businesses:
-
Wildcrafted Experiences, where I create unforgettable events that celebrate nature, community, and creativity.
-
Chickenista, offering chicken flock care and education to help others embrace backyard farming.
-
The Urban Homestead, my regenerative farming project that combines education, cultivation, and connection.
-
Realtor Services, where I help clients find not just houses, but homes that align with their dreams and values.
A Mission to Empower
Through workshops, consultations, and creative collaborations, I strive to empower individuals, families, and communities to embrace sustainable lifestyles. Whether you’re exploring regenerative agriculture, hosting an eco-friendly event, or searching for your dream home, I’m here to guide and support you.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Together, we can cultivate a world that thrives—one rooted in sustainability, nurtured by community, and inspired by creativity.

A Life Rooted in Regeneration and Compassion
Growing up surrounded by principles of self-reliance and environmental stewardship, I developed a profound respect for the interconnectedness of life. This philosophy has shaped my life’s work, from establishing my urban homestead to teaching regenerative agriculture at Occidental College. Along the way, I’ve also found a calling in rescuing animals, welcoming them into a safe and loving environment where they can thrive. This passion reflects my belief that every living being deserves care, respect, and a chance to flourish.
Educator and Thought Leader
As a professor at Occidental College, I teach courses on regenerative agriculture, sharing my knowledge and experiences to inspire the next generation of changemakers. My teaching philosophy is rooted in three principles:
-
Empowerment Through Education: I aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed, impactful decisions in their communities and careers.
-
Learning by Doing: I believe the best way to understand regenerative agriculture is to get your hands dirty—whether that’s through planting seeds, testing soil, or observing nature’s cycles firsthand.
-
Cultivating a Connection to the Earth: I strive to help students see the beauty and importance of working with the land, not just on it, fostering a deeper appreciation for our planet’s resilience and potential.
From the classroom to the field, I encourage my students to think critically, act responsibly, and dream boldly about the future of sustainable agriculture.
Entrepreneurial Ventures
Beyond teaching, I’ve founded several ventures that reflect my commitment to sustainability and creativity:

-

A Passion for Animal Rescue
Animals hold a special place in my heart and life. I’ve made it a personal mission to provide a sanctuary for rescued animals—whether it’s chickens, goats, or dogs—ensuring they receive the love and care they deserve. Rescuing animals is not just an act of kindness; it’s a testament to my belief in fostering compassion for all living beings and creating a harmonious world where humans and animals coexist with respect and empathy.

Through my teaching, ventures, and community work, I aim to empower individuals, families, and communities to embrace sustainable, compassionate lifestyles.
